It all started in 1993 when Mark Parker, at the age of 22, began working as an independent technology consultant in the Greater Cincinnati area. At first, Outlier Technologies developed a variety of custom software applications and managed networks for local businesses and government agencies. But after just a year, the Company’s focus shifted to developing a portable computer system for the Home Inspection industry.

The TurnKey Inspection System™, which included a portable computer, portable printer, carrying case and inspection software, was introduced in January of 1995 at the ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) annual conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The TurnKey Inspection System was an immediate success, and the Company rapidly began acquiring a national customer base.

In 1996, a fortuitous event occurred that helped shape the company’s direction and ultimately its product offerings. A home inspector using the TurnKey Inspection System conducted an inspection for a state official in Ohio. Coincidentally, Ohio was involved in a compliance report automation pilot project, and the technology being utilized was failing to meet the State's needs. After witnessing first hand the user-friendliness and efficiency of the TurnKey Inspection System, the state official contacted Outlier Technologies, and within 18 months awarded Outlier Technologies its first state contract.

During the late 1990’s as portable computer technology became more common, Outlier Technologies refocused its efforts on the inspection software. Whereas many organizations had already invested in portable computer technology, the need to purchase a complete TurnKey Inspection System had diminished. In 1999 Outlier Technologies announced the SansWrite™ Form Development and Inspection Software, which allowed organizations to utilize existing and more commonly available portable computer technology.

In June 2009, MAP Software became Outlier Technologies. After almost two-decades operating under the founder's initials, the Company's name was changed to better reflect its focus in the vast world of information technology.

Today, Outlier Technologies offers field workers complete in-field and back office solutions for capturing, managing and accessing inspection and other related data. To learn more about SansWrite and TurnKey Inspection Systems please visit the Products page.
